The Department of Computer Science and Engineering, Information Science and Engineering offers undergraduate course in
(i) B.E. in Computer Science and Engineering and
(ii) B.E. in Information Science and Engineering.

   The department possesses well equipped computing facilities to cater to the needs of students. The various laboratories are :

> Basic Computer Lab (for serving the needs of I and II Semester students of all branches)
> UNIX and C Lab
> Algorithms Lab & Data Structures Lab
> Graphics Lab & Data Processing Lab
> Micro Processor and Logic Design Labs to equip students to work and design software related hardware design
> Networking & internetworking lab
> Project Lab to cater to the students of 6th & 8th semester to do their mini project and main project of their curriculum on different platforms.

The above laboratories are interconnected through a well-designed seamless network with Internet facility to facilitate the students to access any site globally sitting at one terminal and also access any operating system which is configured through the network without moving out of the node. This will help the students in fulfilling their obligations towards their curriculum.

The department has a students association called "CREST" whose primary purpose is to arrange seminars, workshops and technical interactions with industry people to improve the standard of students. The association also conducts aptitude tests, technical discussions and several other activities which will help the students to improve their technical standards.

The department conducts bridge courses to cover the recent trends in technology with  assistance of industries and several software experts which will enable the students to achieve industry level standards of software development. The department has a well experienced senior and qualified faculty.

The facility available can be utilized for developing industry level software as there is enough of security built into the network. It can also support the post graduate level of curriculum.

4.2 Electronics and Communication Engineering (E&CE): Lesson Plan

The department conducts undergraduate course in Electronics and Communication.

* The Department has full fledged laboratories in the areas of Electronic Devices and Circuits, Digital and Linear Integrated Circuits, Industrial Electronics, Microprocessors and Electronic Circuit Simulation
* The laboratories are well equipped with large number of Oscilloscopes, Function Generators, Power Supplies, digital and linear IC trainer Kits, Microprocessor trainer kits with interfacing modules. Two students form one group to conduct an experiment.
* The department has procured sophisticated high tech digital storage oscilloscopes of Tektronix make. This is for the communication laboratory to be set up in the coming semester. These oscilloscopes provide exposure to the student to use sophiscated equipment.

The department labs have adequate Software for the VLSI design with VHDL and realisation of the design on the FPGA of XILINX,a US Based VLSI software manufacturing company. It also plans to add additional equipments and software to catter to the requirements of the students and also to start VLSI PG program in the year 2005. As a ambitious target an industry tie up on Projects and Prototyping of Electronics systems and sub systems is being worked out and being in placed from the year 2005.

4.3.2 Industrial Engineering and Management (IE&M): Lesson Plan

The department runs a regular under graduate course for B.E. Degree in IE&M. The department has well equipped workshops covering carpentry, Fitting, sheet metal work and welding catering to the first two semester students of all disciplines.

Machine shop with all types of machineries & Foundry shop catered to the students of higher semesters has been established. Laboratories in the areas of thermal engineering, hydraulic machinery and IC engines measurement & gauging, Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing system lab are well equipped for students' training.

Testing laboratory is equipped with the latest state-of-the-art testing equipment. In addition machine shop having around 10 lathes and other machine tools like drilling machine, milling machine has been established. Department has regular interaction with Industry

* Manufacturing System Lab
The lab is equipped with Universal Sand testing equipment, Permeability Tester, Clay content Tester, Grain finesse apparatus, Lathe Tool Dynamometer.    

* Measurement & Gauging Lab
The Lab is equipped with latest state of the art testing equipment like Profile Projector, Stroboscope, Auto Collimeter, Tool makers microscope, Electronics & Mechanical comparators, Surface Roughness testing macnine, Calibration equipment for measuring Force & Torque.

* Material testing Lab
Lab is equipped with latest type of Universal testing machine (60 tonnes capacity), Brinal hardness testing machine, Rockwell Hardness testing, Shores Sclerascope, Izod & Charpy, Impact testing machine, Torsion testing machine, Fatigue testing machine,Metallurgical Microscope & Wear Testing Machine.

* Mechanical Lab
The lab is equipped with Hydraulic thermal engineering equipments and machinery. Some of the major equipments are Pelton Wheel, Francis Turbine, Multistage Centrifugal pump, Test Rigs for Friction in pipes, Reciprocating pump and test Rig for testing of vanes, Journal & Slider Bearing Test rig.
Some of the thermal Engineering testing facilities are two stroke and four stroke engines, Calorimeters, Viscous meters, Flash & Fire point apparatus, etc.

* Machine Shop
The machine shop has ten latest type of lathes, three numbers shaping machines, milling machines and Radial Drilling machines, Surface grinding machine, slotting machine, Tool & Cutter grinding & Band saw.
A major CNC facility is also provided, Computer Aided Design (CAD) Lab has 14 systems put on the network. Some of the important softwares available are Auto CAD, IDEAS, ANSYS.

* Industrial Engineering Lab
The lab is equipped with Tread Mill (walking simulator), Equipment to conduct Statistical experiments like Normal, Poisson, Uniform & Binomial Distribution, Equipment to conduct Time, Method study, Work measurement, Process capability & Plant layout.

* CAD, Software practice & Simulation Lab
This lab has 29 computer systems, 02 Dot Matrix & 02 Inkjet Printers put on the network with an exclusive PIII 800MHz Server. Some of the important softwares available are :

Designing Software : Auto CAD 2000 and IDEAS.8i

Manufacturing Software : CADEM

Analysis Software : ANSYS 6.1, SYSTAT

Simulation Package : ARENA 5.0, QUEST 3D Model

ERP Package : Marsman Compact C-7

4.4 Instrumentation Technology: Lesson Plan

The various laboratories are well equipped to cater to the curriculum of VTU and Bangalore University. The Instrumentation Lab has various equipments like Thermocouple, RTD, Thermistor trainer kits for demonstrating the principles of measurement of physical quantity viz, temperature and signal conditioning. Strain gauge bridges and other equipments like ac bridges, dc potentiometer are available to meet the requirements of the syllabus.

The digital IC lab is equipped with required number of of IC trainer kits, oscilloscopes, function generator to train the students in the digital IC applications.

The Power Electronics lab is fully equipped with modules using SCR to control the speed of DC & AC motors and to demonstrate the working of basic SCR based circuits.

The Instrumentation department has Virtual Instrumentation lab facility with the hardware & software being imported from National Instruments INC. USA, to train the students in the field of Virtual Instrumentation. The Virtual Instrumentation lab has been included even though it is not specified in the University syllabus, as the knowledge of Virtual Instrumentation is useful in the practical field.

The Process Control lab is fully equipped with bottle filling unit, run on programmable logic controllers, Process analyser units, Temperature, Flow and level loops interfaced to computers.

The Control System lab:  Synchro Transmitter-receiver. Lead-lag compensation, Matlab software, P, PI, PID Controllers.

Electronic circuits labs equipped with the number of IC trainer kits, Oscilloscopes, Real time & Storage oscilloscope, Power supplies, Digital multimeters and IC testers to test both Analog & Digital IC's etc from Tektronix function generator.

Computer lab: The computer lab exclusively for the department of IT is equipped with 20 advanced computers. This lab facility can be used in general to upgrade students computer skills. 

Microprocessor lab facility is integrated to this lab. All necessary interfacing modules (A/D, D/A, stepper motor, etc) and software are all available.

Mid-range Microchip micro controller hardware & software facility is available to conduct micro controllers lab. The Intel 8051 micro controller facility is also available.

Texas Instruments digital signal processor kits (both fixed & floating point), other hardware & software are available in sufficient number to conduct DSP lab. The Motorola DSP kits are also available and Micro-phone to extract the information and for storage is also available in DSP lab.

A well qualified teaching faculty exists which is being augmented.

4.5.2 Institute Library:

The institute has an excellent library facility with all the latest technical books, periodicals, BIS standards and general magazines.
The technical books are made available to students and staff for their reading through the lending section of the library. At a time two books will be issued to each student against the library cards given to them. They can keep these books for 10 days.
A reference section has separate set of technical books, periodicals and other sources like encyclopedias, hand books, dictionaries and general reference books.
A Book Bank Section consisting of a good number of text books on different subjects relating to Engineering and Technology caters to the needy students who can borrow books and keep them for the entire semester. We are member for DELNET. A well established Digital Library as been set up with 10 Nodes.
It is also proposed to set up an Information Center having facilities like , CDROM data base covering journals, reports, proceedings, etc., published all over the world and Audio visual section are being planned.

4.5.3 Browsing Center:

A centralized Internet Facility with 4 MBps leased line and 128 Kbps ISDN backup line is setup for Browsing with Thin Client Computers. This facility is catering to the Students and Staff almost round the clock. It is an independent department headed by a Systems Manager directly responsible to the Principal.

4.6 Master Of Business Administration: Lesson Plan

Postgraduate programme in Management (MBA) was started in 2004 with intake capacity of 60 students under the Government of JSSATE with the objectives of providing quality education in management subjects relating to Human Resource Management, Production Management, Information Technology Management, Marketing Management and Corporate Strategic Management.

This institute has professional experienced faculty along with latest facilities. Apart from Management studies the center will endeavor to prompt Personality Development, Management Skill development. The classroom education includes seminars, case studies and internship supplemented by guest lecture. The institute has faculty with Industry experience.
