Education is the key for social up-liftment of the masses and essential for economic development of any country. With this vision and foresignt, His holiness Jagadguru Late Sri. Sri. Sri. Dr. Shivarathri Rajendra Mahaswamiji, the 23rd pontiff of Suttur Mutt established Jagadguru Sri Shivarathreeswara (JSS) Mahavidyapeetha in the year 1954.The JSS Mahavidyapeetha is the central body running over 250 educational, cultural and Religious institutions covering right from primary to professional education. The institutions are mostly spread across the length and breadth of Karnataka state and a few institutions are also located in Tamilnadu & Uttar Pradesh.

The present pontiff, His Holiness Jagadguru Sri Sri Sri Shivarathreeshwara Desikendra Mahaswamiji the 24^th pontiff of Suttur Matt is the President of the JSS Mahavidyapeetha. He, with his vision, enthusiasm, dedication and devotion to causes dearer to his illustrious predecessors, has been the driving force in promoting the cause of education through a large network of JSS Educational System.

With this in view, the JSS Mahavidyapeetha has set up JSS Academy of Technical Education in the year 1997 imparting engineering education at under Graduate level affiliated Visveswaraiah Technological University (VTU) and recognised by AICTE, New Delhi. The Management of JSSATE, Bangalore can draw on the experience it has gained in turning SJCE, Mysore to be one of the premier institutions of the country.
